The clouds drift
Patchy in the aird sky
The sands shift amongst shrubs
Berms in perpetual, aching movement
–
Alone on a spiny blade
A pink flower opens to the sky
Its petals and stamen dance in the wind
–
In defiance of the dry air
The flower glistens with its own dew
A colorful contrast in the sea of tan
The axis upon which the desert turns
