A slouching stillness flows from my elbows on up
Memories of a rainy night
Cold and dreary
But warmed by years of distance
And a longing for that city
Perhaps not the city persay
But the moment of life when I called it home
When from the rooftop on warm days
When the sun was setting off to the west and the city spread out before me
I felt the future moving me
Yet I was lost in its way
Pleasantly driftwood
Smiling at the future
And the possibilities in the multitudes
I shared this city with
Spread out in concrete brick and steel
All painted purple by the rays of the fading day
And glowing in the coming night.
